Garcia's speech will focus on his recent book, "The Decline of Men: How the American Male is Tuning Out, Giving Up, and Flipping Off His Future."

The book is a critical analysis of the economic, cultural and social malaise afflicting the American male, who is opting for superficial definitions of masculinity, self-destructive behaviors and virtual escapism.

"We're very excited to have Mr. Garcia as the guest speaker," said Laura Gutierrez Spencer, director of Chicano Programs. "He's someone working on cutting-edge media, technology and diversity."

Other books by Garcia include "The New Mainstream: How the Multicultural Consumer is Transforming American Business," and the novels "Skin Deep" and "Obsidian Sky."

Garcia is currently president and chief executive officer of Mentametrix Inc., a research, marketing and consulting company.

Garcia also serves as a speaker and consultant for major international corporations, including Time Warner, Reebok, Kraft Foods and Coca-Cola, among others.

Garcia was a staff writer at TIME Magazine for 13 years, where in 1988 he covered a story on the emerging U.S. Latino culture, which featured actor Edward James Olmos. Garcia also is a former vice president at AOL, where he launched AOL Latino, a bilingual entity of AOL International, encompassing all 2 million of its Hispanic subscribers.

Villanueva, an NMSU alumnus, is a pioneer of Spanish language television and a former Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys football player.

The proceeds from the Danny Villanueva Scholarship Breakfast raise funds for the Danny Villanueva Scholarship Endowment.

Garcia's books will be on sale at the event. He will autograph his books immediately after the breakfast.

Individual tickets for the breakfast are $25 and are available at NMSU's Garcia Annex in Room 138. A limited number of tickets are currently on sale. Tickets will not be reserved and will not be available at the door.
