West Point Clarinet Quartet to play at NMSU

The West Point Clarinet Quartet from the U.S. Military Academy Band at West Point, N.Y., will perform at New Mexico State University's Music Center at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8.

The clarinet quartet will perform a variety of classical music and light favorites by composers ranging from Gustav Mahler to Henry Fillmore.

The quartet is one of only a handful of clarinet quartets dedicated to exploring and performing the literature written and transcribed for this unusual ensemble. The group was formed in the fall of 1992 and has since evolved into an integral part of the Military Academy Band Chamber Music Series.

One of the quartet, Staff Sgt. Christopher D. Jones, is a graduate of NMSU. Jones earned a master's of music in clarinet performance and conducting in 1992.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Information about the quartet is available on the World Wide Web at http://www.usma.army.mil/band/bios/clar4.htm.
