New Mexico State University to have summer band camp for high school students

New Mexico State University will host a summer band camp for high school students in the Southwest from Sunday, June 22, to Saturday, June, 28.

klong music workshop also will include a flag camp for high school color guards and a directors workshop, for which directors can receive college credit.

Morning activities will include ensemble bands performances. In the afternoons, students will have the opportunity to participate in electives such as conducting, music theory and private lessons. Entertainment will be provided in the evenings.

Hal Cooper from Arkansas Tech will be the guest conductor of the top student band.

In addition to being an intensive week of music study and performance for high school band students, it also can be a way for young musicians in the Southwest to meet each other, said Ken Van Winkle, New Mexico State's director of bands and camp coordinator.

Camp participants will be housed, fed and entertained on the campus of New Mexico State.

"We hope that students will enjoy their time here and look to New Mexico State for their continued education," said Van Winkle.
