Hamilton's first novel, "The Book of Ruth," won the PEN/Ernest Hemingway Foundation Award for best first novel and was a selection of the Oprah Book Club. Hamilton also wrote the international best-selling novel "A Map of the World" and the novel "Disobedience."

"Readers love Hamilton not only for the beauty of her prose and the profundity of her story lines but also for her psychological precision and authorial benevolence," said a Booklist review of her latest book, "The Short History of a Prince." Booklist is a magazine devoted to reviewing new books.

Graduate student Victoria Barrett also will be on the program. The second-year master's student in fiction will read from her thesis. Barrett received a 2000 NMSU Frank Waters Fiction Lectureship. She is also a winner of a Joe Somoza/Keith Wilson Poetry Prize, which is sponsored by NMSU's English department.
