The week will kick off with the Parade of Nations, where members of the NMSU chapters of the United Native Americans Organization, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society and the Native American Business Student Association, will walk down the International Mall.

"It's a tremendous undertaking for the student groups to come together and put something like this on," said Justin McHorse, director of NMSU's American Indian Program.

Also featured during the week will be cultural events such as the Miss Native American NMSU Pageant, traditional Native American dancing performances and drum making and kachina doll carving demonstrations.

An International Indian Taco Social will feature students making fry bread and other Native American traditional foods.

The Miss Native American NMSU contest will be held toward the end of the week, where contestants will be judged on public speaking, a traditional or cultural activity and a question and answer session.

All events are sponsored by the Associated Students of NMSU and the American Indian Program and are free and open to the public. Anyone interested in helping with the week-long events can call Dane Candelaria at (575) 993-9033 or Timothy "Otis" Begay at (505) 716-1581.
