4-H members gather for Youth Get-Away

Novice and junior 4-H members can participate in a weekend of fun workshops, dances and movies during the Youth Get-Away, April 17-19, at the Inlow Baptist Camp in Torreon, N.M.

This year's theme is "On the Set with 4-H." The state 4-H officers will hold workshops on topics including respect, leadership and responsibility. Each workshop will be taught using different movie genres, such as action, comedy and western. Camp counselors also will lead groups and help with the activities.

Dances and movies will be held both Friday and Saturday nights.

"This event is a great opportunity for novice and junior participants to gain skills that will benefit them in leadership roles as they grow in their 4-H career. The state officers provide neat hands-on activities in their workshops that pass along these skills in a way this age group can grasp them," said Amy Zemler, 4-H activities specialist.

The New Mexico State University 4-H program is dedicated to providing opportunities for youth to develop leadership and communication skills, positive self-esteem and personal responsibility.
