NMSU Theatre Arts and the ASTC present touring production of 'Henry V'

The American Southwest Theatre Company at New Mexico State University Department of Theatre Arts will present a limited engagement of the national tour of The Acting Company/Guthrie Theater production of "Henry V" by William Shakespeare at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Hershel Zohn Theater on the NMSU campus.

"Henry V" tells the story of a young king fighting to unite his kingdom. As he leads a war against France, King Henry learns about himself, his country, and his kingship while facing overwhelming odds.

"The Acting Company and the Guthrie Theater are two of the leading forces in American theater. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Las Cruces audiences," said Tom Smith, ASTC managing director.

The Acting Company promotes theater and literacy by bringing a repertory of classical productions, talented young actors and teaching artists into communities across America. Founded in 1972, the company has performed for more than two million people in 48 states and nine foreign countries.

This year, the company has teamed up with the Guthrie Theater to co-produce and tour William Shakespeare's "Henry V." Founded in 1963 in Minneapolis, Minn., the Guthrie Theater is a Tony Award winning American center for classical literature and new work from diverse cultures.

"The Guthrie Theater is one of the most prestigious regional theaters in America, William Shakespeare's 'Henry V' should be a top notch show," Smith said.

The Acting Company and Guthrie Theater production of William Shakespeare's "Henry V" is sponsored by the NMSU Office of the President and the Dean of Arts and Sciences. The production is promoted by Opus 3 Artists.

Early reservations are strongly recommended. Tickets are $15 to $20 and are available by calling the ASTC box office at (575) 646-4515.
