Finalists selected for the College of Business, Administration and Economics dean

Five finalists have been selected to interview for the position of dean of the College of Business, Administration and Economics at New Mexico State University.


didates are James H. Scheiner, dean and professor at the Walker L. Cisler College of Business at Northern Michigan University; William A. Pasmore, a partner with the Mercer Delta Consulting Group in New York, N.Y.; Garrey E. Carruthers, president and CEO of the Cimarron Health Plan in Albuquerque; Rosemary P. Ramsey, professor of marketing at the College of Business Administration at Cleveland State University; and Ali R. Malekzadeh, dean and professor at the G.R. Herberger College of Business at St. Cloud State University.

The finalists were selected from a national pool of candidates by a search committee chaired by Carmen Gonzales, vice provost for distance education at NMSU.

Scheiner, also the director of the bureau of economic and business research at NMU, has been with the university since 1999. He was a professor and the director of the School of Accounting at Florida International University before joining NMU. Scheiner received his Ph.D. in accounting at Ohio State University. He will interview Jan. 29-30.

Pasmore has been with the Mercer Delta Consulting Group, a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan, since 1997. Before joining the group, Pasmore was president of Pasmore & Associates Inc. from 1980 to 1997. He was a professor at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University from 1976 to 1997. He received his Ph.D. in administrative sciences from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University. He will interview Feb. 4-5.

Carruthers has been with the Cimarron Health Plan since 1993. He also has been a member of the board for Health Care Horizons since 1991 and served as the Governor of New Mexico from 1987 to 1990. He is a two-time graduate of New Mexico State and he received his Ph.D. in economics from Iowa State University. Carruthers has also been a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business at NMSU. He will interview Feb. 12-13.

Ramsey has been with Cleveland State University since 1999. She started as a professor and chair of the marketing department and in 2000, she became the interim dean for the College of Business Administration for two years. She received her Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. She will interview Feb. 18-19.

Malekzadeh has been dean and professor at the G.R. Herberger College of Business at St. Cloud State University since 1998. He also served as the interim vice president for academic affairs at the university from 1999 to 2000. Before joining SCSU, Malekzadeh was the associate vice provost for graduate studies at Arizona State University West in Phoenix from 1993 to 1997. He received his Ph.D. in business administration from the College of Business Administration at the University of Utah. He will interview Feb. 24-25.

Each candidate's visit will include an open forum from 4 to 5 p.m. on the first day of the visit at Guthrie Hall Room 200.
