NMSU celebrates Fiestas Latinas

The 2009 Fiestas Latinas will be held at New Mexico State University April 16-25.

The planned activities include dance lessons, a comedy night and a softball and soccer tournament and other events.

"I want to encourage everyone to attend," said Maribel Tellez, assistant director of Chicano Programs at NMSU. "There's going to be a lot of great activities with the chance of learning about the Hispanic culture."

Comedy Night will feature Jorge Jimenez and Gibran the Comegician.

Jimenez is a rising stand-up comedy star from Texas. He performs in comedy clubs throughout the country and has performed on several comedy tours, including "Que Locos," "Loco Comedy Jam," "Latin Kings of Comedy" and "The Three Amigos."

Gibran the Comegician is from El Paso and is an eccentric magician whose bizarre humor has earned him widespread recognition as one of the most original performers in the Southwest.
