NMSU offering student orientations this summer

The New Mexico State University Student Affairs Office has several New Student Orientations planned this summer to acquaint incoming freshman and transfer students with life at NMSU.

Students have the option of attending drive-in or extended orientations. The extended orientations offer an overnight stay that includes a campus and city tour, a personalized preview of class schedules, and entertainment.

Students attending the orientations will receive their ID card and personal identification number. They also will receive academic advising and will have the opportunity to register for fall semester classes. Students and their parents are invited to attend interest sessions that cover studying techniques, financial aid, campus life and other NMSU services.

At least 500 incoming students are expected to attend each extended orientation.

The dates of the New Student Orientations are:

- June 20-21 freshman extended orientation.

- June 25 drive-in orientation for transfer students.

- June 27-28 freshman extended orientation.

- July 17-18 orientation for first-generation college freshman and their families, including a special session for students and parents led by the NMSU Ethnic Studies Programs.

- July 21-25 freshman Chile Camp, hosted by NMSU's student government.

- July 30 transfer student drive-in orientation.

- Aug. 6 freshman drive-in orientation, designed for students from the Las Cruces area who are familiar with the NMSU campus.

- Aug. 19-20 foreign student orientation, hosted by NMSU's Center for International Programs.

- Aug. 22-23 freshman and transfer student extended orientation.

NMSU's College of Engineering also is hosting specialized activities during each orientation for incoming engineering majors. The students will have the opportunity to meet engineering faculty and staff, and view "engineering toys" built by students for national engineering competitions.
