New Mexico 4-H members gather for state conference

The 86th Annual State 4-H Conference will be held July 13-17 at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

During the week-long event, 4-H members from across the state will gather for contests, workshops, evening sessions and awards ceremonies. This year's theme is "Catch Your Own Reality."

"State Conference is an annual event that opens up opportunities for youth to explore the skills they posses in competition and leadership. The various contests and workshops offered at the event provide hands-on experience for the youth to master and improve their skills to proceed to regional and national competitions," said Amy Zemler, 4-H activities specialist.

Participants will compete in a variety of contests, such as livestock judging, crop judging and home economics presentations. The winners of the contests will receive their awards during an awards session on Thursday afternoon.

A fashion show and a talent show will be held on Wednesday. The state officer team will give their retiring address Thursday night.

The keynote speaker is Rhett Laubach, who will present a program Monday night about personal leadership insight. Laubach is a former National FFA Organization member and has co-authored several leadership and motivational books.

The NMSU 4-H program is dedicated to enabling youth to become productive, well-informed, self-reliant and responsible adults.
