Joe Creed named interim vice president of university advancement

Joe Creed, assistant dean of the New Mexico State University College of Engineering, has been appointed interim vice president for university advancement, NMSU President William B. Conroy announced today.

The appointment is effective July 8. Creed will serve on an interim basis while a national search is conducted to replace Marcia Muller, who has accepted a position as vice president for advancement at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

As assistant dean of engineering since 1988, Creed has been responsible for the college's development activities, including alumni relations, public relations and work with charitable foundations. In February he took on additional responsibilities as the corporate relations liaison officer for the entire campus.

"Joe has done an excellent job in advancement for the College of Engineering," Conroy said. "We are fortunate to have someone with his capabilities to take on this important assignment."

At a later date the president expects to name a search and screening committee to assist with the search for a permanent replacement for Muller, who served for nine years as NMSU's vice president for university advancement. The vice president is responsible for the university's fund raising and alumni relations.

Creed earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering from NMSU. He joined the College of Engineering faculty in 1983.
