"Spirit of Sustainability" to be celebrated during Enviro-fest

In an attempt to raise student awareness of New Mexico State University's 2009 Year of Sustainability, the New Mexico Students Public Interest Research Group and the Sustainability Council will present Enviro-fest from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Horseshoe Lawn on the NMSU campus.

Formerly referred to as "Earth Hour" during Aggie Welcome Week and "A Make Up Earth Hour," the festival will include food, music, games, exhibits and presentations. This year's theme is "Spirit of Sustainability," and to add to that spirit the Aggie Pride Band and Sundancers will provide entertainment.

Aggie Earth Hour will be held between 8 and 9 p.m., when luminaries will be lit around the horseshoe. NMSU and all students are encouraged to turn off all unnecessary lights and electronic devices at home and use candles during this hour.

Campus organizations including housing and auxiliary services and several environmental organizations will contribute to the event. In addition, NMSU Provost Waded Cruzado will speak to attendees about the sustainability on campus.
