Adventure Arts Series kicks off Sept. 24

To help promote outdoor recreational activities through a series of films, speakers and music, the New Mexico State University Outdoor Recreation program will hold the Adventure Art Series throughout the coming months.

The series will have a monthly event, and the first will be the Reel Rock Film Tour on Thursday, Sept. 24. NMSU Outdoor Recreation will host the touring showcase of the climbing and adventure films, "Progression Up" and "First Ascent." Short-film award winners have also been selected and will be shown.

This year is the first time the Adventure Arts Series has been held, and Ben Gabriel, assistant director of NMSU Rec-Sports, said the goal of the series is to inform people more about outdoor recreational activities, the environment and to broaden the outdoor community.

Other upcoming Adventure Art events include speaker Malcolm Daly in October, a climber and the founder of Paradox Sports; a Warren Miller ski and snowboard film premiere in November; the Mountain Film Festival in February; and New Mexico nature writer Sharman Apt Russell in March.

Tickets for the Reel Rock Film Tour are $8 and can be purchased from the Aggie Recreational Equipment Store, Room 108 in the Athletic Center, or at www.riograndetheatre.com.
