Career Expo 2009 presents students with job opportunities

New Mexico State University's Career Services and the NMSU College of Engineering will provide students with career opportunities at the 2009 Career Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, and Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the Corbett Center Student Union.

The Career Expo is intended for all levels of students looking for job opportunities, from internships and co-ops to professional employment. The event will also be open to the public as well as students from other schools in the region.

"The advantage of the Career Expo is the variety of employers who are looking for all types of majors at NMSU in one convenient location," said Roseanne Bensley, associate director of NMSU Career Services. "Even with the increase in job applications on the internet, candidates who interact one-on-one with recruiters will have an advantage through that contact."

Many of the employers who recruit at the Career Expo are companies that continue to come year after year because of the variety and quality of students at NMSU.

"ExxonMobil continues to return to NMSU each year because of the overall quality of students we have interviewed," said Jeff Ray of ExxonMobil Pipeline.

Participating students are encouraged to establish an AggieTRAK account on the Career Services Web site, http://careerservices.nmsu.edu. AggieTRAK-registered students will be able to research employers, send in resumes in advance and access the campus interview schedules during the Career Expo.

Bensley said participants in the expo should research potential employers in advance as much as possible, dress professionally and bring several copies of their resume.
