NMSU Greek life triumphs over UNM in canned food drive

The football game was not the only upset for the University of New Mexico this past weekend as the Greek life at New Mexico State University triumphed over the fraternities and sororities at UNM in a competition to collect canned foods for local charities.

As part of the annual rivalry football game between NMSU and UNM, the Greek life at both schools agreed to a second year competition to collect canned foods for the individual group's choice charities. NMSU's Greek life collected a whopping 15,638 pounds of canned food dominating the competition against UNM's 2,395 pounds of collected cans.

The final tallies were made on Friday, Sept. 25, after three and a half weeks of collecting and the winning group was announced at Saturday's football game. NMSU Greek members also took the victory in last year's competition.

The canned food collected from NMSU's Greek life will go to the Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico while UNM's collected food will go to Roadrunner Food Bank in Albuquerque.
