Search for new dean for NMSU Arts and Sciences under way

The search for a new dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at NMSU is on track, and the search committee is hopeful a decision will be made by the end of the spring semester.

The committee, comprised of arts and sciences faculty, staff and one student, began advertising the position in early January in widely recognized education publications such as the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The 13-member search committee, chaired by Ken White, interim dean of the College of Engineering, has put together an evaluation rubric for the applicants. Minor modifications were made to the rubric at the latest meeting on Monday.

"In two or three weeks we should be down to the first cut," White said adding that by early April, the top five will have been chosen and will have made visits to the campus.

White, who has served on a number of search committees before, said it is standard to do roughly 12 phone interviews and five on campus visits with applicants.
