ASTC at NMSU announces 2010-2011 season

The American Southwest Theatre Company at New Mexico State University Theatre Arts has announced the productions for their 2010-2011 season.

The season will open with William Shakespeare's laugh-out-loud farce, "The Comedy of Errors." Focusing on the confusions that ensue when two sets of identical twins end up in the same town, Shakespeare's classic comedy has been making audiences laugh for more than four hundred years. "The Comedy of Errors" premieres on Sept. 24 and runs through Oct. 10.

A special one weekend presentation of a brand new play will be featured on Oct. 15 and 16. The High Desert New Play Program returns to the Hershel Zohn Theatre stage and asks audiences to help develop and select a play for full production in the spring.
A revival of the holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol," will run Nov. 19 through Dec. 5. Tom Smith's perennially popular adaptation of the Charles Dicken's favorite returns Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, the Fezziwigs and more to the Las Cruces stage. Join in for some family fun in the festive season.

The second half of the season will open with a brand new work developed in part by students and faculty as part of NMSU's High Desert New Play Program. From Feb. 18 through March 6, 2011, local audiences can be a part of the premier production of a brand new work.

The final production of the season is the stylish thriller: J.B. Priestly's "An Inspector Calls." The play takes a look at an evening in the life of the Birling family, busily enjoying a party when they are accused of playing a part in the death of a young girl. Attend the show and figure out the mystery from April 16 to May 1, 2011.
