NMSU Socorro County Extension Service hosts pesticide training, private applicator test

SOCORRO, N.M. - New Mexico State University's Socorro County Cooperative Extension Service will host pesticide training and testing for private applicators from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June 27, at the Socorro County Annex Building, 198 Neel Ave., Socorro.

"This training is required by law for anyone who has agricultural land and is going to spray their own property with restricted-use pesticides," said Tom Dean, Socorro County Extension agent. "To purchase such chemicals, individuals must have a license from the New Mexico Department of Agriculture, which is obtained by taking this class and passing the test."

The course is also open to people with public or commercial applicator licenses to earn four continuing education units.

There is no fee for the training, but a fee of $15 is required if a participant is going to take the private applicator licensing test. Payment of the fee should be by check made payable to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture.
