Candidates for the NMSU Foundation president position to visit campus

Two candidates for New Mexico State University's vice president for university advancement and president of the NMSU Foundation have been invited to campus for interviews.


Search Committee Chair Ben Woods, senior vice president for external relations and chief of staff, announced interviews will be held Aug. 30 and Aug. 31. Additional candidates for the position may be invited to campus at a later date.

Bryan K. Rowland, president of the Wright State University Foundation and vice president for advancement at Wright State University, will interview on campus Monday, Aug. 30.

Dennis A. Prescott, vice president and special adviser to the president for advancement at Baylor University, will interview on campus Tuesday, Aug.31.

Both interviews include meetings with multiple individuals across campus, including a public reception at 6 p.m. at the NMSU Golf Course Clubhouse.

In his current position, Rowland's responsibilities include oversight of alumni relations, communications and marketing, development and foundation administration. Rowland formerly served as vice president for development for Arizona Health Sciences with the University of Arizona Foundation and as senior director of development and alumni affairs for the University of Arizona's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He also served in a number of positions at Virginia Tech including director of development for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and director of development for the College of Natural Resources.

Prescott's current position is a cabinet-level officer of the university and provides consultation to the university president on various aspects of development initiatives. He came to Baylor University in 2007 as vice president for university development. In this role, he led a staff of about 100 in the fundraising and alumni relation's areas of Baylor. Prior to his time at Baylor, Prescott served for eight years as vice president for external affairs at Mississippi State University and as chief executive officer of the MSU Foundation. Prescott has more than 25 years experience in higher education, including stints at the University of Florida and Texas A&M University.

Nick Franklin, who currently holds the position, announced that he will leave this year after a replacement is selected. Franklin, who had been a long-time Foundation volunteer board member, left retirement to serve his alma mater temporarily in 2008.
