NMSU students encouraged to help 'Keep State Great'

The New Mexico State University campus community will unite on Oct. 23 to help beautify the campus before homecoming events as part of the annual Keep State Great project.

Keep State Great is organized by Associated Students of NMSU, which is teaming with the Office of Facilities and Services to assess what most needs improvement on campus. Participants at Keep State Great this year will focus on trash pick-up, re-painting curbs and handicap ramps, removing fliers and graffiti from marquees and electric poles and raking areas around south campus and family housing.

"It is important for NMSU students to take pride in their campus. Keep State Great will be a chance to show it off to alumni and the community who will attend homecoming events," said ASNMSU Director for Community Outreach Jenae Golden. "It also gives students a chance to give back to the university that has given them so much,"

Campus organizations and individuals are encouraged to participate in the event. The first 600 registrants will receive free t-shirts and breakfast on the day of the event.

"It's important to have ownership of part of the university," Golden said. "By getting involved, it makes the college experience more than just a task at hand. When you're part of something, it makes the experience all the more beneficial."

Registration packets can be picked up in the ASNMSU office on the second floor of Corbett Center. The packets must be filled out and turned into the office by Oct. 15.
