NMSU choral program announces upcoming concerts

The New Mexico State University choral program has five concerts planned for the upcoming year, ranging from a traditional Bach Mass to a musical variety show.


The concerts dates are:

-- Sept. 24 and 25, new singers and past favorite performers will present a musical variety show at the second annual "Let Us Entertain You."

-- Oct. 29 and 30, University Singers will perform "Untamed Harmonies," a presentation of traditional choral pieces, including madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi and choral favorites by Samuel Barber and Randall Thompson. The show will conclude with the Las Cruces premiere of R. Murray Schaffer's "Medieval Bestiary."

-- Nov. 19 and 20, the NMSU Choir will celebrate the holiday season with the candlelight Christmas concert "Do You Hear What I Hear," featuring a variety of holiday carols.

-- March 23, area high school students will join the University Singers and NMSU Concert Choir at the Jack Ward Invitational Choral Festival. All tickets for the festival are $5.

-- April 28 and 29, the University Singers, Masterworks Chorus, guest soloists and a chamber orchestra will present the "Mass in B Minor" by J.S. Bach.

All concerts begin at 8 p.m. in NMSU's Music Center Recital Hall. Prices range from $8-$12. For ticket information, call (505) 646-1895.
