Section of Stewart Street will close for a week

A section of Stewart Street on the New Mexico State University campus is expected to close Aug. 16-20 to allow the installation and connection of utilities in preparation for remodeling the Student Health Center.

The section of Stewart to be closed is between Williams Avenue and Breland Drive. Traffic that normally flows east and west on Stewart Street is encouraged to detour around the NMSU intramural fields. The closure is not expected to affect traffic to Williams Avenue or Breland Drive.

Remodeling of the Student Health Center is scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 16 and should be completed by spring 2000. The $1.3 million remodeling project will create a new entrance to the center with an enlarged waiting area and additional exam rooms. When finished, the facade of the Student Health Center will resemble design characteristics of the New Library.
