Parking changes imlemented at NMSU

The New Mexico State University parking department is starting the 1999-2000 school year with a few changes.

Yearly parking rates for students will be $20 and faculty permits will cost $60, up from $16 and $30 respectively. The parking department also will make "movable" permits available, which are transferable to other vehicles, and will install parking meters at a 50 cents per hour rate near Corbett Center, the New Library and the Horseshoe area this fall.

The parking department also is making visitor parking more convenient. Many campus parking lots, excluding those for students residing on campus, are unrestricted between 4:30 p.m. and 7 a.m., and visitors may park in any available legal space.

General visitor zones are available for occasional campus visitors. Those who are regular daytime visitors can obtain a free visitor's permit from the parking department, which allows guests to park in several areas on campus other than those designated for visitors. However, students, faculty, staff, NMSU retirees and commercial vendors are not eligible for these special permits.

Parking permits will go on sale Aug. 11, and renewal forms will be mailed to returning students and NMSU employees. The parking office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is located on the south side of campus in the Genesis Center, Building C, on Research Drive. For more information, contact the parking office by phone at 646-1839, via e-mail at parking@nmsu.edu or through the Web at www.nmsu/Administration/parking.
