Gem and Mineral Show to Feature Five States

LAS CRUCES - More than 30 vendors from New Mexico and other states will display a variety of stones at the Silver City Gem and Mineral Show, Sept. 4-6 at the Silver City Recreation Center.

"The Silver City Gem and Mineral Show will provide visitors with an opportunity to see some of nature's most beautiful creations in their natural state and after they have been polished and faceted," said Mike Cook, coordinator of New Mexico State University's Rural Economic Development Through Tourism (REDTT) project.

REDTT is a project of NMSU's Cooperative Extension Service that promotes agriculture through tourism.

Items for sale will include precious and semiprecious gems, minerals and carvings. There also will be faceting demonstrations and displays by Chino Mines, the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and members of the Silver City Gem and Mineral Society.

Admission to the show is free.
