NMSU's music department will hold 30 performances during the fall semester

The sound of music will be alive at New Mexico State University with 30 performances, operas, symphonies, ensembles, concerts and recitals scheduled for the fall semester.


The performances from Aug. 23 through Dec. 19, which are at 8 p.m. in NMSU's Music Center Recital Hall unless noted otherwise, are:

-- The NMSU Aggie Pride Band will hold its annual "Concert on the Green" Aug. 23 at the Corbett Center Lawn Outdoor Stage.

-- NMSU faculty members Nancy Joy, on the horn, and Martha Rowe, on piano, will perform at 1 p.m. Aug. 29.

-- Marco Aurelio, guest guitarist, will perform Sept. 9.

-- Rowe, soprano, and NMSU faculty member Chris Sanders, on piano, will perform Sept. 13.

-- Dona Ana Lyric Opera will present "Rigoletto" Oct. 6, 8 and 10. Admission charged.

-- The Las Cruces Symphony at NMSU will perform Oct. 16, at 3 p.m. Oct. 17 , Dec. 4 and at 3 p.m. Dec. 5. Admission charged.

-- The NMSU Jazz Ensemble will perform Oct. 18 and Nov. 15.

-- The Mesilla Valley Concert Band will perform at 3 p.m. Oct. 24 and Dec. 12.

-- The Las Cruces Symphony Youth Concert will perform from 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 26.

-- The NMSU Symphonic Winds I will present Halloween "Fright Night" Oct. 31.

-- The NMSU Tournament of Bands is Nov. 6, all day, at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

-- The Chamber Players de Las Cruces will perform at 8 p.m. Nov. 13 and at 3 p.m. Nov. 14. Admission charged.

-- The NMSU Aggie Pride Band will present "Half-Time Highlights" at 3 p.m. Nov. 21 in Aggie Memorial Stadium.

-- Melba Halamicek and William Leland, both on piano, will perform Nov. 22.

-- NMSU faculty member Nancy Joy will present a "Horn Studio Recital" Nov. 30.

-- NMSU faculty member Lisa Van Winkle will hold a "Studio Flute Recital" Dec. 2.

-- NMSU Symphonic Winds I will perform Dec. 7.

-- The choir group "Sweet Adelines" will perform Dec. 11. Admission charged.

-- The Las Cruces Chamber Ballet will present "The Nutcracker" at 7 p.m. Dec 16-18 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 19. Admission Charged.
