New Music department head announced

Greg Fant, New Mexico State University's associate band director for the past nine years, has been appointed head of NMSU's Department of Music. Fant replaces Bill Clark, who will be a part-time professor for the music department.

As department head, Fant said he hopes to incorporate newer technology into the music curriculum, and lead with the same "enthusiasm and direction" that Clark brought to NMSU's music program.

"Much of my first year will be spent listening and learning from our faculty, as well as developing an additional music program with an emphasis on business," Fant added.

Fant has been a faculty member of NMSU's music department since 1990 and will continue to teach courses in music education and applied saxophone. In 1992, Fant was honored with the Patricia Christmore Excellence in Teaching Award and served as the vice president of the college-university division of the New Mexico Music Educator's Association.

Fant received his Bachelor's degree in music education from Delta State University, his master's degree in music from NMSU, and a doctoral degree in music education from the University of Arizona.
