Aztec Fiesta Days to Feature Burning of "Old Man Gloom"

LAS CRUCES - The burning of "Old Man Gloom" will be one of the highlights of Aztec Fiesta Days June 4-5 in Aztec, located 28 miles northwest of Farmington.

The burning of "Old Man Gloom," will take place at 9 p.m. Friday at Pioneer Park. "The tradition signals the end of winter and the onset of warm weather in northern New Mexico," said Mike Cook, coordinator of the Rural Economic Development Through Tourism (REDTT) project.

The event also will celebrate the 120-year history of Aztec. Activities will include a shoot-out, a quilt show, a wood-carving demonstration, a fiesta fun run, a classic car show, a candlelight parade, a pet parade and a sidewalk sale with arts and crafts vendors along historic Main Street.
