Music and Wine Sampling to Highlight Event

LAS CRUCES--New Mexicans will have a chance to listen to great blues and jazz bands while sampling some terrific New Mexico wine during the Blues/Jazz Thing 99 April 10-11 at the La Viņa Winery in La Union.

"Blues/Jazz Thing 99 is a real treat for all the senses," said Mike Cook with New Mexico State University's Rural Economic Development Through Tourism (REDTT) project. "You get to sample New Mexico wines that have won awards from the New Mexico State Fair and the Southwestern Regional Wine Competition."

Musicians will be performing from noon until 7 p.m. both days of the festival. Performers will include the Rattlecats, Billy Townes, Casa Blanca, Buck Naked, the Dave Borrego Quartet and KGB Blues Band.

The event also will include wine tasting and arts and crafts booths, Cook said.

There is no charge for admission to the festival, but there will be a cost for the wine. REDTT, a project of NMSU's Cooperative Extension Service, promotes agriculture through tourism.
