Congressman Skeen to help NMSU dedicate Thomas E. Davidson Applied Technology Center

New Mexico State University's Physical Science Laboratory will dedicate its new Thomas E. Davidson Applied Technology Center at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24. U.S. Rep. Joe Skeen, R-N.M., will speak at the ceremony, which will take place in the lobby of the PSL building on campus.

The new center will focus on developing environmentally friendly manufacturing processes, in conjunction with the U.S. Army Sustainable Green Manufacturing Program. Skeen will announce Congressional funding of the program.

PSL's partners in the Sustainable Green Manufacturing initiative are the U.S. Army Industrial Ecology Center at Picatinny Arsenal in Picatinny, N.J., the National Defense Center for Environmental Excellence in Johnstown, Pa., and the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, N.J.

The new Applied Technology Center at PSL is named in honor of Tom Davidson, who was deputy director for resource management at PSL at the time of his death last year. Besides working with the Army's Industrial Ecology Center on new manufacturing technologies, the PSL center's goals include assisting industries in the U.S.-Mexico border region with cost-effective ways of minimizing the potential polluting effects of industrial growth.

Participating with Skeen in the dedication ceremony will be Michael Fisette, the technical director at Picatinny Arsenal; Robert Scola, director of Picatinny's Industrial Ecology Center; PSL Director Donald Birx and PSL Program Manager Robert Silver.
