NMSU and UTEP English departments team up for lecture series

The New Mexico State University and University of Texas at El Paso departments of English are collaborating for a faculty lecture series to strengthen ties between the universities' departments.

The series began Sept. 23, with two lectures by NMSU English Professor Ryan Cull and UTEP English Professor Robert Gunn. The second in the series this semester will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Health and Social Services Auditorium on the NMSU campus.

"UTEP's English Department Chair David Ruiter and I began this lecture series as a way to recognize, disseminate and promote the scholarship being done in our departments and as a way to encourage communication and collaboration between departments," Monica Torres, head of NMSU department of English said.

UTEP English Professor Ruben Espinoza will present "Piercing Prayers and Impotent Intercessors in the Merchant of Venice," followed by NMSU English Professor Sarah Hagelin lecturing on "Deadwood, Post-9/11 Television and the Politics of the Body."

A reception will follow the lecture. The campus and community are invited to attend and admission is free.
