Lovington Show of Wheels Set for Jan. 30-31

LAS CRUCES--More than 100 different vehicles, including antiques, classics, mini trucks and street rods, will be displayed at the Lovington Chamber of Commerce's annual Show of Wheels Jan. 30-31 at the Lea County Fairgrounds in Lovington.

"Last year, there were 94 entries in the show. The Lovington Chamber of Commerce expects even more this year," said Mike Cook with New Mexico State University's Rural Economic Development Through Tourism (REDTT) project. "More than 90 trophies will be awarded in 30 different classes, plus six special-pick trophies and a people's choice."

REDTT, a project of NMSU's Cooperative Extension Service, promotes agriculture through tourism.

The show opens at 7 a.m. on Jan. 30. A banquet will be held at 6 p.m., with tickets priced at $7 per person.

On Jan. 31, the show begins at 8 a.m. A Boy Scout Pine Box Derby will take place at 1 p.m. followed by the presentation of awards.

Admission to the car show is $5 per person. The cost if $20 to enter a car in the show and $50 to have an exhibit booth.
