NMSU engineering names new head of Klipsch School

New Mexico State University College of Engineering Dean Jay Jordan named Steven P. Castillo head of the Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering Aug. 16. Castillo, a Klipsch School professor, had served as interim department head since December 1998.

Castillo earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from NMSU in 1982. He earned his master's and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois in 1984 and 1987. He specializes in electromagnetics, high performance computing and computational linear algebra.

He joined NMSU in 1987, and received the National Science Foundation's Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1991. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and has served as adviser to the NMSU student chapter of the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers.

The Klipsch School is a department within the engineering college.
