NMSU Horse Team Hosts Regional Show

LAS CRUCES -- New Mexico State University's equitation team, ranked first in the nation in Western-style riding, will host two horse shows Oct. 14 and 15, beginning at 8 a.m. each morning.

College teams from Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota and Kansas will compete in both Western and English riding at the Equitation Center on the corner of Stewart St. and Union Ave.

Morning events include hunter-jumper ("over the fences") and English flatwork ("equitation on the flat"). In the afternoon, students will compete in Western stock seat classes and reining.

These two shows, in addition to eight others in the Western United States, make up the regional competition. The team with the highest overall points in all the regional shows will go on to the national competition.

Last year, NMSU's Western-style riding team placed first in the nation. This year, they are leading in the Western region.
