Calderon Awarded Bill Queen Memorial Scholarship

LAS CRUCES -- Felix Calderon III recently was awarded the first Bill Queen Memorial Scholarship for $300.


Calderon is a junior majoring in environmental science at New Mexico State University's College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences .

The scholarship fund was started by friends and associates of the Queen family and Queen Oil and Gas of Carlsbad, after Bill Queen was killed in a farm related accident in 1991.

The College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences scholarship selection committee recommended Calderon and the applicant was approved by the Queen family.

Calderon is the son of Felix, Jr. and Cruz Calderon of Loving. He is active in FarmHouse Fraternity and intramural athletics. Calderon is a research assistant at the range insect lab at the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences .
