Yard Waste Processing Demonstration Set For Feb. 2 in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES - Turfgrass and landscape professionals interested in learning how to process and dispose of yard waste are invited to attend a free, public demonstration Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. The event will be held south of New Mexico State University's Physical Plant at the corner of Locust and Stanley drives in Las Cruces.

Program organizers will demonstrate various yard waste processing equipment and discuss the uses of processed waste.

"A large tub grinder and other machines will be on site to process brush, logs and other yard waste into mulch, which can be used in grounds keeping, park maintenance and landscaping," said Kerry Krumsiek, solid waste/recycling manager for NMSU's Physical Plant grounds department.

George Dickerson, horticulture specialist with NMSU's Cooperative Extension Service, also will be on hand to discuss the benefits of composting yard waste.

Sponsors are NMSU's Cooperative Extension Service, the Physical Plant grounds department, the City of Las Cruces parks department and Southwest Toro Distributors, Inc.

For more information contact Kerry Krumsiek, 646-6432, in Las Cruces or George Dickerson, 275-2576, in Albuquerque.
