NMSU Equestrian Team Dominated Horse Shows

LAS CRUCES -- New Mexico State University's Equestrian Team hosted and dominated its third and fourth horse shows of the season, winning three of the four possible high-point team awards. The team emerged from the Equestrian Center arena in Las Cruces with 24 individual first places throughout the weekend of Oct. 19 and 20.


The team's 29 riders competed against riders from Colorado State University (CSU), Laramie County Community College, Colby Community College, Denver University, United States Air Force Academy, University of Colorado and Texas A&M.

NMSU's team won high-point team in both Western and English divisions Oct. 19. Holly Armstrong won high-point rider in the Western division, while Brigitte Burchfield won reserve high-point rider in English.

The following NMSU riders took home one or more blue ribbons: Heather Armstrong, Holly Armstrong, Markus Boenig, Cathy Cumberworth, Kristin Hoover, Jennifer Lowder, Miguel Maes, Shannon Salazar, Liz Sanwick, Jessica Sorenson and Jeb Stuart.

NMSU's team also was prominent on Oct. 20, winning high-point team in the Western division and reserve high-point team in English. Tammy Greeman was the reserve high-point rider for the Western division. The following riders received one or more first places: Heather Armstrong, Cathy Cumberworth, Heather Gribling, Dianne Howes, Jennifer Lowder, Miguel Maes, Adren Nance, Shannon Salazar, Jessica Sorenson, Kristen Yarbro and Lindsey Zeiders.

The team will attend its next two shows the weekend of Nov. 2 and 3 at CSU.
