Poet to read at NMSU Sept. 24

Miriam Sagan, author of more than 12 books, will read from her latest poetry collection, "The Art of Love," Sept. 24 as part of La Sociedad Para Las Artes Fall 1999 Reading Series at New Mexico State University.


The reading begins at 7:30 p.m. in NMSU's Hardman Hall, Room 106. Linda Price, an NMSU graduate student majoring in English with an emphasis in poetry, will read from her thesis.

Sagan also has written the poetry collections "The Widow's Coat," "Pocahontas Discovers America," "True Body," "Aegean Doorway" and the novel "Coastal Lives."

A Harvard and Boston University graduate, Sagan lived in Martha's Vineyard and San Francisco before settling in Santa Fe in 1984. Sagan has taught writing at the Santa Fe Community College, the Taos Institute of the Arts and the Aspen Writers' Conference. Her work has appeared in more than 200 national and international magazines.

Other readings for the fall include: Rodney Jones, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry, on Oct. 8; authors Don Kurtz and Valerie Martinez in the "Share Our Strength" reading Oct. 22 at the Las Cruces Court Youth Center; and author Richard Russo on Nov. 12.
