Specialty Crop Marketing Conference Scheduled for Feb. 3 in Santa Fe

LAS CRUCES -- Small-scale farmers who directly market their produce can learn new sales techniques during the Specialty Crop Marketing Conference Feb. 3 in Santa Fe.

"We want to teach the farmers new marketing alternatives and how to add value to their crops," said Patrick Torres, Santa Fe County program director with New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service.

The conference will provide information to farmers who want to become certified organic growers about the process of certification and the market outlook for organic produce. Marketing methods for cut flower and "pick-your-own" operations also will be featured, Torres said.

Area Extension specialists and farmers will serve as speakers at the event, sponsored by Extension.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe County Fair Building, with the event scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee is $5. For more information about the conference, contact Torres at (505) 471-4711.
