NMSU names new computing director

David Rocks has been named director of New Mexico State University's Department of Computing and Networking (C&N). He had served as interim director since January 1999.

Rocks earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 1970 and master of arts degree in 1972, both from NMSU. He joined NMSU in 1971 at what was then called the Computing Center. He previously served as associate director of computing services at C&N.

C&N is responsible for computing and networking support and maintenance at NMSU, including computer support services, campus computer laboratories, NMSU online registration, telecommunications, transcripts, fee payment and other student services, managing e-mail and dial-up services, training classes and video-conferencing.

"Dave has provided outstanding leadership and direction for C&N over the past several months and I am confident we can all rely on him to continue his excellent service for NMSU," said Gary Cunningham, vice president for research.
