AFROTC hosts third annual Heritage Veteran's Dinner

The Arnold Air Society, New Mexico State University Air Force ROTC's honorary society will hold their third annual Veteran's Heritage Dinner at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Hotel Encanto.

The event, raised $2,500 for the local Disabled American Veterans chapter last year, and Arnold Air Society is hoping to double that this year.

"Our goal this year is to reach $5,000," AFROTC cadet Kate Apple said. "There aren't a lot of people that take time to do what our organization does and these veterans deserve a lot of appreciation."

The event was started three years ago by then Arnold Air Society Commander Ben Skee, who still helps coordinate the annual event.

"I saw this dinner as a great way to give back to the veterans and show them our appreciation and let them know that they have not been forgotten," said Skee, now an Arnold Air Society cadet major. "It makes me really proud to see how the event has grown and shows the caliber of the cadets coming into the ROTC program."

The dinner is open to everyone for $35 a ticket, which includes dinner and a number of guest speakers, including World War II veterans and public officials. Proceeds from the event will be presented to DAV Chapter 10's Commander Robert Cano during the event.
