Lucero elected 2007-2008 State FFA President

Keisto Lucero was elected 2007-2008 State FFA President at the New Mexico State FFA Convention, held June 4-6 at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

Lucero, a member of the Belen FFA Chapter, was District III President and State Vice-President for 2006-2007.

Through FFA, he has judged livestock and dairy, and has taken part in Farm Business Management and public speaking competitions. His Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs) are market swine and dairy placement. He also has shown swine at the local, regional, state and national level.

Lucero's opponent in the race for president was Brandon Sours of the Tucumcari FFA Chapter. He received the office of State FFA Secretary for 2007-2008.

Sours was the District II President and State Vice-President for 2006-2007. In FFA, he judged nursery, floriculture, horticultural products and horses. He also has competed in home-site evaluation, landscape design and public speaking. He raised and showed swine and Hereford cattle for his SAE in diversified livestock.

Although they ran against each other for the office of state president, Lucero and Sours are friends and teammates. "Either way, we knew that whoever won the office was a good candidate," Lucero said.

Both will continue to serve FFA as they attend New Mexico State University in the fall, where they both will be majoring in agricultural and extension education.
