NMSU Horn Choir receives invitation to international symposium

The New Mexico State University Horn Choir has received a special invitation to be a featured ensemble for the 32nd annual International Horn Society Symposium in Bejing, China, July 19-29, 2000.

This is the second invitation the Horn Choir has received for the annual event. The group was asked to perform at the 2000 event as a result of its performance at the 1999 International Horn Symposium last May at the University of Georgia.

"This is the most prestigious event for a horn choir to perform at and being invited two years in a row sets quite a precedent," NMSU Horn instructor Nancy Joy said. "It is a tremendous honor for this university to have the Horn Choir directly invited to be a featured ensemble."

Joy said the Horn Choir is preparing a 45-minute concert for the Bejing performance at the 21st Century Cultural Theater. The concert will premiere all-new works written especially for this ensemble. Internationally-known french horn player Eric Ruske will perform a selection with NMSU's group, Joy said.
