ASTC at NMSU Theatre Arts presents holiday classic, 'A Christmas Carol'

The American Southwest Theatre Company at New Mexico State University Theatre Arts will present Tom Smith's adaptation of the Charles Dickens holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol," Nov. 19 through Dec. 5 at Hershel Zohn Theatre.

"A Christmas Carol" follows the life of the miserable Ebenezer Scrooge and his journey to redemption through the guidance of four ghosts. This production features original songs and choreography, in addition to a large cast of NMSU students and community members.

"We are thrilled to present this classic ghost story," said Tom Smith, managing director and department head of theatre arts. "Only Scrooge himself would be immune to the joy and spectacle this production brings to life."

The production is directed by NMSU Theatre Arts student Michael Derr and features scenic and lighting design by Jim Billings, costume design by Jordan Kelley, sound design by Tom Smith and properties by David Hereford. The ASTC will welcome two guest artists to this production: musical director Robert Randall and choreographer Jennafer Jones.

NMSU students and faculty included in the cast are Ben Adams, LaSasha Aldridge, Andre Bergsagel, Mandolynn Browning, Eric Burton, Valerie Cadena, Roxanne De Luna, Austin Dennis, Erin McClure, Mandie Miller, Josh Padilla, Chris Rivas, Natasha Sanchez, Teddy Sanchez, Tom Smith, Krysta Snowden, Ellen Striepeke, Marcus Williams, D. John Young, William Zimmerman, with young actors Levi Doyle, Emily Plain, Mariah Newtson and Davian Powels. Ethan Estep and Emily Fredrickson share the role of Tiny Tim.

All evening performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the Hershel Zohn Theatre Box office between the hours of noon and 4 p.m. or by calling 575-646-4515.
