Air Force and Army ROTC prepare for day of food, football

The Army and Air Force ROTC programs at New Mexico State University will continue an annual tradition, with the pre-Thanksgiving feast for cadets at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in Young Hall, followed by their "Toilet Bowl" football game at 1:30 p.m. at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

As a way to express their appreciation, Army and Air Force ROTC leadership will begin in the early morning to prepare and serve a free Thanksgiving meal for the cadets.

"This is our way of giving back," Air Force Capt. David Myers said. "The cadets work very hard throughout the semester and this is our way of expressing our gratitude."

The cadets will be able to enjoy a feast of turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and numerous desserts before taking part in the annual football game.

A tradition that is more than 25 years old, the Air Force and Army ROTC groups will compete for the coveted "Toilet Bowl" trophy. About 25 members from each group will compete in the game and have taken time over the past couple of weeks to prepare.

The "Toilet Bowl" has been part of the tradition for the past five years. Army ROTC took home the first four wins before Air Force beat them out with their first trophy win last year.

The football game is free and open to the public. For more information on these events call 575-646-2136.
