NMSU journalism students win broadcasting scholarships

Four New Mexico State University journalism students have been awarded scholarships from the New Mexico Broadcasters Association.

The winners are: Emily Guerra of Las Cruces; Levi Jackson of Animas, N.M.; Lillian Kelly of Aztec, N.M.; and Candice MacBlain of Las Cruces. The four accepted the scholarships at an awards dinner at the annual NMBA convention in June.

To be eligible for the NMBA scholarship, students must be entering their junior or senior year at an accredited university in New Mexico, have a desire for a career in the radio or television broadcast industry and be residents of New Mexico. In addition, scholarship winners must secure a summer internship with an NMBA radio or television station.

Guerra was awarded $3,500 and is an intern at KRWG-FM, the public radio station at NMSU. Jackson was awarded $2,000 and is interning at Sunrise Broadcasting in Las Cruces. Kelly was awarded $2,500 and also is completing an internship at KRWG-FM. MacBlain was awarded $1,500 and is completing her summer internship at NMSU's Agricultural Communications office.
