New Mexico State University events Feb. 5-11

The Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra- Classics Four will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 and 3 p.m. Feb. 6 at Atkinson Recital Hall at New Mexico State University.


NMSU professor Lonnie Klein is music director/conductor. The performance will also feature Elena Armijo and Mezzo Soprano- Prentice Loftin Chorale.

FIRST CONTEMPORARY ARTS FESTIVAL COMES TO NMSU

The First Annual Contemporary Arts Festival in Las Cruces will be held Feb. 7-9 at Atkinson Recital Hall at New Mexico State University.

The festival will focus on contemporary music compositions and their multimedia interaction with other art disciplines.

The works of transformative contemporary masters Joan Tower, Louis Andriessen, Gerard Drisev and Sam Shepard will be featured Feb. 7.

The works of New Mexico composers Warner Hutchinson and Scott Wilkinson will be featured Feb. 8, and the music of American composer John Cage will be featured Feb. 9.

All shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by performances on Brack Morrow's installation piece Partum Sanus at 6:45 p.m.

NMSU MUSIC DEPARTMENT PRESENTS GRADUATE VOICE RECITAL

The Department of Music at New Mexico State University will present a graduate voice recital by Wenhai Wang at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Atkinson Recital Hall.

SOUTHWEST HONOR BAND: NMSU JAZZ ENSEMBLES TO PERFORM AT NMSU

The Southwest Honor Band: New Mexico State University Jazz Ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at Atkinson Recital Hall.

The event is in conjunction with the Southwest Honor Band Festival.

UNIVERSITY MUSEUM TO HOST WORKSHOP ON NECKLACE-MAKING

The University Museum at New Mexico State University will host a workshop on making a squash blossom necklace from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 5.

Saturday workshop visitors will learn how to make the University Museum's version of the traditional Native American necklace.

The University Museum is located in Kent Hall at University Avenue and Solano Drive on the NMSU campus. Weather permitting, the workshop will be held in the museum courtyard. For more information, call 575-646-5161.

NMSU ART GALLERY PRESENT ART FACULTY BIENNIAL EXHIBITION

The New Mexico State University Art Gallery will present the 2011 Art Faculty Biennial exhibition from Jan. 21 through Feb. 23.

The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and is located in D.W. Williams Hall on University Avenue east of Solano Drive.
