NMSU thanks Sen. Bingaman for long service to state, university

The recent announcement that U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman will retire in 2012 at the end of his current term is a good opportunity to highlight the many ways the senator has helped New Mexico State University and a chance to thank him for his extensive record of public service.

"New Mexico State University wishes to thank Sen. Jeff Bingaman for his long service to the state of New Mexico," said NMSU President Barbara Couture. "During his decades in office, Sen. Bingaman has shown exceptional support and commitment to a variety of programs at NMSU, including efforts to foster economic development, advance our research in renewable energy and protect natural resources, among others.

"We were pleased to recognize Sen. Bingaman in 2008 with an honorary doctorate and we continue to appreciate his support and commitment to this university," Couture said.
