NMSU Barnes & Noble invites business students to compete for trip to New York City

Barnes & Noble at New Mexico State University is inviting all undergraduate and graduate business students to team up and take part in the NOOKstudy Student Marketing Plan Contest in April.

Teams will put together a comprehensive marketing plan for the free NOOKstudy eTextbook reader and study application. NOOKstudy is an eTextbook application for computers. It is unique because it allows students to highlight and takes notes directly on their online textbooks, whereas students who buy or rent their textbooks may not be able to do so, said Joanna Koliba, general manager of Barnes & Noble at NMSU. It also allows students to download PDF files or to have multiple pages and textbooks open at a time.

"The study components offered by NOOKstudy are a great benefit to students," Koliba said.

Three semifinal teams will receive a trip to New York City to present their marketing plan to a panel of judges, as well as one night's hotel accommodations and $150 in spending money. The winning team will see their ideas incorporated into future marketing strategies, and each member of the winning team will receive a NOOKcolor, which allows users to read digital novels and magazines.

"Nobody can tell us how to better market to students than students themselves, so the contest is a great opportunity for everyone involved," Koliba said.

The registration and submission deadline for the contest is April 1.
