NMSU student competes to be the new 'Face of Fox'

One student is representing New Mexico State University in a statewide contest, competing to be the "Face of Fox" for television news station KASA Fox 2.

Zachry Bergman will receive his degree in international business and finance from NMSU on May 7. Bergman said he became interested in media by appearing as an extra and background actor in television shows and movies.

"I fell in love with art and media," Bergman said. "This competition is a great way to combine all of my interests."

The competition required contestants to submit a one-to-two-minute video tape showing why he or she should be the next "Face of Fox." The "Face of Fox" will be a full-time contract employee with benefits of KASA Fox 2 and will be paid a minimum of $25,000 for the contract year. The winner also will make regular appearances on the New Mexico Style Show; tape on-air messages about Fox programs, clients and projects; perform public relations duties for Fox through social networking sites and more.

All of the people featured in Bergman's video submission are NMSU students. Bergman said he chose to feature students in the video because statistics have shown that the younger generation is not very involved or interested in local news or issues.

"So, maybe by choosing a college-age person for the 'Face of Fox,' young people will be encouraged to watch the news and to get involved in local issues and events," Bergman said.

The five remaining finalists will participate in live auditions on the New Mexico Style Show from May 27-June 3. The winner, who will be announced June 9, will be determined by a combination of input from the panel of judges and number of video views.

As of May 2, Bergman was ranked eighth on the "Face of Fox" weekly rankings board, which is based on the number of video views for each contestant. Up until two weeks ago, Bergman had been ranked first since the beginning of the contest, which began in late February.
